How do I get rid of ear congestion?

I had a cold two weeks ago and last saturday I woke up with sever congestion in my left ear. My sinuses are still congested, but when I take sudafed it clears them but not my ear. My doctor said it would go away on it's own but it's been almost a week already. Any tips on what I should do would be greatly appreciated.
